Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with a Salute in Towers of Light
PORTSMOUTH, NH / ACCESS Newswire / July 21, 2026 / Navy veteran, New Hampshire resident and American Airlines pilot Tom McGuinness perished on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked AA Flight 91 that he was co-piloting and flew it into the World Trade Tower. Another 42 passengers with New Hampshire connections, three of them also veterans, were among the 2,977 who died in the 9/11 attacks. Now, for the 25 th anniversary of that fateful day, the Granite Springs Foundation is planning "The Honor Summit," a dramatic installation that pays tribute to the veterans, firefighters and first responders whose courage continues to guide the US. From the highest peak in the Northeast, two ascending pillars of light become a beacon of unity, resilience, and gratitude - four nights when the nation rises together to remember, honor, and reflect.
On September 9-12, 2026 two huge LED light beams will reach three miles into the sky from the top of Mount Washington, New England's tallest peak at 6,288 feet, and will be visible from within a radius of 135 miles around the summit. The four-day experience ensures that if visibility is poor on September 11, people will still be able to experience the special tribute in lights around the anniversary.
The National 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York has hosted a similar installation with two light beams reaching to the sky in the footprint of the World Trade Center Twin Towers.
The Honor Summit is being produced as a fund-raiser for four veterans service organizations that help veterans access vital emotional and mental health resources: Harbor Care, Delta Dogs, Hidden Battles and Camp Resilience.
